Which desert safari should you book in Dubai?

Dubai desert safaris come in four formats, and the right one depends on how much time you have and what you want out of the day.

Morning safaris run from around 8:00 AM and finish by lunchtime. No dinner, no shows — just dune bashing, sandboarding and a camel ride while the sand is cool and the light is soft. Best choice between May and September, and for anyone who has already done an evening trip.

Evening safaris are the classic version and what most first-time visitors book. Afternoon pickup, a sunset dune drive, then a Bedouin-style camp with Tanoura and belly dance, a fire show, henna, shisha and an open BBQ buffet. Around 5 to 6 hours door to door.

Overnight safaris add a night in a tent after the day groups leave, with proper stargazing away from Dubai's light pollution and breakfast at sunrise.

Private and VIP safaris swap the shared 4x4 and camp seating for an exclusive vehicle, flexible timings and a reserved majlis area. This is what couples, families with older relatives and corporate guests book.

Where our desert safaris go

Every tour runs on the Lahbab red dunes at Al Madam, on the Dubai–Hatta Road (E44), about 45 minutes from central Dubai. These are the tall, iron-rich red dunes that give the drive its drop and the photographs their colour. Budget operators often use the flat Al Aweer sand closer to the city, which is cheaper to reach and a far tamer ride — worth checking before you pay anyone.
